Genuine website identification is extremely important as it prevents inadvertent sharing of personal credentials over a seemingly genuine, but fake website set up by fraudsters.
IDENTIFY A GENUINE WEBSITE BY FOLLOWING THESE STEPS
LOOK FOR URL WITH ‘HTTPS‘ AND LOCK ICON
STEP 1
- Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) certificates secure the transfer of your crucial data
- Genuine website is easily identified by the lock symbol
- Also look for ‘https‘ instead of ‘http‘ as a prefix to the website address
CHECK THE DOMAIN NAME
STEP 2
- Fraudulent websites will use a domain name similar to, but slightly different from the genuine website
- Pay attention to the website name specially while clicking on a link received
- Check for minor spelling alterations, alphabet swaps, alphabet duplications etc.

STEP 3
- Usually, fake websites do not have one. Instead they ask the customer to fill a form and get in touch
